My Birthday.

Today I am going to have my birthday and I will be 12!!!. I looked back and realized I have many fond memories of DisneylandHomecoming2005 213.JPGmy birthdays. I think my 8th birthday was one of the best birthdays I have ever had. My mom surprised me by taking me to Disneyland. My mom told me we were going to a wedding far away. We went to the hotel we were staying at and there were Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Pluto the dog were in the hallway and I took a picture with them. I had no clue we were going to go to Disneyland. My whole family knew but I didn’t.

We were on a Mono Rail over to Disneyland and there were people that had on Mickey Mouse ears.  I kept telling my mom I wanted to have some Mickey Mouse ears as well.  She kept telling me maybe later honey and left it at that but when we got off the Mono Rail she bought me a pair.  We finally made it to Disneyland, she handed me a visa gift card, I ask her what it was for she told me to buy my own ticket.  I felt lucky to be able to pay my own way in (even though mom really paid my way).

We finally made it through the gates that is when I finally believed we made it to Disneyland.  It is such a big place 318470584uFWOjI_phI didn’t know where to start.  We walked down the streets looking in the stores.  My  mom wanted to have lunch at the ESPN resturant, it was fun in there.  They had a two story building you ate on the first story, on the second story they had a huge game area.  I was able to play most of the games.

When we were at lunch I saw a big roller coaster and I told my mom I wanted to go on it.  That is when the real fun began.  The first ride we rode was Magic Mountain.  I really liked that ride it was fast and swerved through plastic mountains.  The second ride was Auto Topia.  I was able to race with my mom in the passenger seat around a curving speed deamon track.  I also got my fake drivers license but I was proud of it.  I thought I could drive my moms truck.

My next stop was California Adventures.  The first ride I went on was Tower of Terror.  I told my grandpa I amCalifornia_Adventure-1never going on that again.  We went to the top of  a ten story building in an elevator the view was amazing you could see all of california adventures lit up at night. Then the elevator just dropped straight down in the dark. I was floating in my seat all the way down because it dropped so fast.  It was really scary.  My favorite ride was a rollercoaster ride that went upside down.  I rode it with my mom and grandparents.  We all had a blast riding it so we rode about five times.  We would have rode it more but the lines were too long.

PS: My whole family would recomend for you to go to Disneyland for your next birthday or special occasion.

Diary Of A Wimpy Rodrick Rules

6a00c22521c302f21900fa969f71f60002-500pi[1]Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules is a realistic fiction novel written by an American author and cartoonist, Jeff Kinney. He was also the creator of Poptropica. This is a really good book!!! As you can see Greg Heffley is a very wimpy kid. He has a mother, a dad, a brother, and a baby brother. His brother, Rodrick is a very annoying brother. Greg’s baby brother, Manny would aways get everything he would want. Every year when the swimming teams come out Greg’s father always makes him join it. When the coach would shoot the bullet Greg would be concerned about where the bullet would land, and Greg only jumps in and doesn’t do anything. His dad gets really mad!!! My favorite part of the book is when Greg has a test to take at school, but in the morning he put on a google eye. Greg sits next to a smart kid. Greg entered the class and told the teacher that something was wrong with his eye so that the teacher shouldn’t think that he was looking at other people’s papers, but he was.

This book had a week beginning, but once I got into it it was starting to get really well!!! This book takes place many places. It mostly takes place at the school and at his house. Greg has a really best friend named Rowley. They always go to each others house’s and play video games. The author, Jeff Kinney did a really good job on making me feel like I was there. I sometimes feel that I was Rowley. I imagine Greg being my best friend as if he was a real person!!! He does everything people can do, but more interesting!!! This is a really good book. Jeff Kinney is just waiting for other people to read his series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. That person is YOU!!! There will also be a movie called Diary if a Wimpy Kid!!! YOU BETTER WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blogging Challenge Class Blog #1

Welcome to Room 162!  We are excited to be participating in this year’s blogging challenge.  We have many very good writers that are anxious to share their work with all of you. Room 162 is made up of about 60 students that see me (Mr. Miler) for history and/or science class. In addition to this class blog, we have several group blogs that can be found in the left sidebar. We post school assignments on these pages, mostly science and history related. Nineteen students are involved in the individual blogging challenge.  Their names and links to their blogs can also be found on the left sidebar. We have only been blogging since October, 2009 and have made great progress. We hope that you enjoy what you see and read. Please feel free to leave comments too!

Our first class challenge was to write about why other students and classrooms would be interested in reading our posts. We worked as a class and used Google docs to come up with our answers:

“You should visit our class blogs because just like several other classes we have some great Qualities that are very rare to find. Plus we have many outstanding writers in our class. All though we are just kids we all have great potential to be great writers.”

“If they are young we can give them some blogging skills. It might help them.”

“Other students should visit our blog because we have some great writers in our class and we talk about interesting topics.”

“Other students should visit our blog because our will be about different things and not only on one subject.  It will have a lot of fun facts and people will learn and have fun at the same time.”

“Were always updating our blogs and their always talking about something new. We have may different blogs on history and science, and personal blogs as well. Our blogs provide a lot of information and we are outstanding writers.”

“Other classes will learn about the sixth grade curriculum in California.”

“We can pass on our writing skills to young students that read our blog. They will learn things they didn’t know.”

In addition to writing, we like to put Animotos, VoiceThreads, and podcasts into our blogs. Each day a different student will be writing a post that will appear here, on the class blog, so please visit us often and leave comments!  As part of our assignment, we will be visiting Ms. Wyatt’s and Mr. Webb’s class blogs. We will be making comments on Friday this week.

Thanks for reading.

Hephaestus the God of Craftsmen

X-20090415142547796Hephaestus or as his Roman name Vulcan was the god of technology, blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metals, metallurgy, fire and volcanoes. He had an ugly appearance. He was the blacksmith of the gods. Hephaestus parents where Hera and Zeus. Where his cult was in Lemnos. Some of his symbols where a smiths hammer, anvil and sometimes a axe.

Hephaestus created many stuff for the gods. Like Hermes winged helmet and sandals. Also the Agios breastplate Aphrodite‘s famed girdle, Agamemnon‘s staff of office, Achilles‘ armor, Heraclesbronze clappers, Helioschariot. Finally Eros bow and arrows. Hephaestus made all the thrones for The Twelve Olympians. When he was young Zeus threw him of Mount Olympus. Hephaestus fell nine days until he fell on Lemons where Sintains brought him back to health and then grew to be the god of blacksmiths. His wife was Aphrodite the Goddess of Love. She was not faithful to him because she committed adultery to Ares. A story says that she had to marry him because Zeus offered her to get married with him. So she was not happy about this so she went with Ares secretly. Hephaestus found out and stared to play mean tricks on the both lovers. She went with Ares because he was full of excitement and was better looking.

He has been the only god who has been exiled from Olympus and let back. Most of all his sons where as lame and ugly like him. They say that sometimes his feet would be front to back and back to front. In some myths they say that he built himself a wheel chair. He showed off with the wheel chair so they can see his talent. A story says that he once got revenge of Hera for throwing him off Olympus. He finally got his revenge by building  Hera a golden throne which if she sat on it she wouldn’t be able to get off. All of the other gods told him to let her go but he just said no and that he has no mother. Until Dionysus the Wine God shared his wine and got Hephaestus drunk. Dionysus took  Hephaestus to Olympus on the back of a mule. Then he Finlay let her go. Hephaestus may have been ugly but he accomplished many things.

A Busy Week

The sixth grade got to go to the theater in town and see the movie, The Lightening Thief. We will be studying ancient Greece beginning in April and many students were already able to identify with characters mentioned in the film. Each student has an avatar and they post assignments to their blogs using their avatar names taken from the sixth grade history curriculum. We had a great time getting off campus and enjoyed popcorn for lunch.lightning-thief

Looks like we are ready for the challenge coming up March 1st. We have just a couple of students left to finish up their new blogs. It is nice to see that we are getting hits already from many of the other students and classes involved in this event and we look forward to beginning.

Our calendar is also set for the class blog takeover by my students. Normally, I write about what is happening in class on this page while my students post their assignments on their group blogs. Beginning next week, there will be a new post each day written by a guest blogger. From then until the end of the school year, you can read original work from my students right here.

Their posts can be about anything of interest to them and some have picked special events in their lives to write about. We enjoy reading your comments so please keep making them! A kind word or two about something written on our blog pages can have a tremendous impact on the confidence of an eleven year old.

Edublogger Student Blogging Challenge

This week I will be introducing the Edublogger Student Challenge to my students. We will be participating in a worldwide effort to increase student interest in blogging as a means of sharing information and collaborating with others. The challenge begins March 1st and I hope to have students entered into the two categories – blogging and commenting. They will be writing for other students and commenting on blogs written by students all over the world.

Each week there will be a new topic to write about and this website will be the focus of a lot of visits from other students and teachers. I have many outstanding writers and I hope they will join in the challenge and enjoy the experience. In addition to our blog roll of student blogs appearing to the left of this post, several students will be getting their own blog so that their writing can be easily highlighted.

This is a great idea for improving student writing and confidence, and for encouraging friendships and learning about global perspectives. I’m really looking forward to seeing what my class can do.
