About
My name is John Miller (@room162) and I am a teacher at Chalone Peaks Middle School in King City, California. I am currently teaching 6th grade language arts and history, but I have experience teaching every subject in grades 6-8. I have been a teacher for the last 17 years and enjoy incorporating technology throughout my curriculum. In addition to Edublogs, my students are using a class Moodle, Skype, TodaysMeet, VoiceThread, and assorted Google Apps amongst other technologies to explore writing and history topics.
I hold credentials in both multiple subjects and single subjects (history and science) and I am GATE certified, SIOP trained, a Google Certified Teacher and professional developer, and an AVID teacher. I have completed undergraduate work in anthropology and astronomy and I’ve recently obtained a Masters Degree in Educational Technology from San Diego State University. I enjoy teaching how to use technology in the classroom. I also like to design, develop, and implement curriculum that promotes collaborative and interactive online learning.
My students will be using their avatars to complete assignments for me and post their own views of life as 6th graders. You are welcome to send them comments, but these blogs are moderated by me to protect their privacy, so your comment may not appear directly. We would love to make contact with other students so please do not hesitate to contact me at jwmiller at kcusd.org if you are interested or have any suggestions for this site.

Dear Mr. Miller,
I LOVE your blog because of all the Yes or No questions on your Home Page. I can’t BELEIVE that Johnny Depp won the vote over Taylor Lautner. I think that Taylor’s much more attractive.
I also liked the video about China. The music was AWESOME! The pictures of ancient things are interesting.

Hello Mr. Miller’s Class!
Welcome to a new school year! It looks like you’ll be sailing into quite a few adventures this year! I hope you’ll welcome my class aboard as we begin our our blogging adventures!
This year, I am asking my students to create their first blogs! They are very excited about it, but we’d like to do it correctly. Could you offer us some tips? Perhaps my students could visit your blogs?
I saw someone mention Mr. Miller’s blogging boot camp. What was that like? What did he teach you? Do you think fifth graders from Vermont would be able to keep up with a boot camp?
I hope we can visit often this year! We’d love you to take a peek at what we’ve been doing lately!
G’day Mr Miller and students,

Hello Mr. Miller and Class,
We were happy to receive a visit from you to our blog. Yes, of course I recognize the “Mr. Miller” name from both The Ripple Effect and Huzzah! blogs. We are happy to be neighbours on the class list at the Student Blogging Challenge. We still have a lot of learning to do on both our class and student blogs, but it’s this learning journey that makes blogging a worthwhile venture.
Happy Blogging!
Ms Clayton
Hello Ms. Clayton!
We love blogging for the exact reasons you mentioned. It has been a great journey and so satisfying to connect with so many like-minded classes. We look forward to visiting you on Friday.
Mr. Miller and students,
We are excited to be paired up with all of you! How long have you been blogging? Do you have any tips to make it easier to start?
Thank you!
Mrs. Allen and 4th graders
Hi Mrs. Allen!
This is our second year of blogging and we love it. Some tips are to search out other classrooms for collaborative projects and also make it a priority to visit other class blogs regularly and have your students make comments. Sometimes we use a rotation through our blogroll, and at other times we respond to specific posts by other classes that we can especially relate to. I’ve set up Google Reader to collect class feeds for us so that we always know what is being published by our friends. Looking forward to learning from you!

I am currently compiling a list of the Top 100 Classroom Blogs, and I would like to include your site on my list. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about you and your blog so I can include more information in my article (I couldn’t find your contact information) Please e-mail me (alexisbrett@gmail.com) and include the title of your blog in the e-mail, thanks!
Hello Mr Miller
I’m Kaylee from Mrs Braidwood’s class and I’m in grade six. My class uses a lot of technology too. We don’t have middle school here, so I’m going straight to high school. We use to have them but then they split them up. Grade 7′s went to elementary and the grade 8′s and 9′s went to high school. I love going on the computer and learning from them. Do you?
I miss you Mr. Miller. You were the best teacher that I had so far in my middle school career. I have looked at this year’s group blog, and they look very good. Hoping to see new and exciting posts this year from your 6th grade language arts history, and A.V.I.D class this year. ;-0
I saw comments from your students on my blog. Glad you visited. Looks like you have a lot of activity going on with technology in your classes. Do your students have their own blogs? Tell Chloe and Stephany that I read their comments and hope to hear from them again.
Our mascot is the boxer which is the reference to “What up dawg” and the pictures of the boxer pups.
Hi,
I really like your blog so far.
Come on to my blog at http://questioningninja.edublogs.org/

Hi Mr. Miller. I just wanted 2 say thank you so much for the opportunity you’ve givin me by teaching me how to use all that technology. I never knew that all of that even exsisted before you taught it to our class. Thank you so much for all you’ve done for me and the rest of my classmates. As you know, our school doesn’t have a lot of money to give us more opportunities. So so any little bit of an opportunity could possibly change our lives. I am very grateful for everything we learned. Thank You!!
Thank you so much Cleopatra. It was such a wonderful year last year thanks to so many students like you! Please keep in touch and keep blogging. Stop in to see me once in awhile too
Hi Miss Nichols!
Thank you so much for the high honor. We have been working hard all year and are now wrapping it up. We’ve been visiting your site to and really enjoy it!
